MALAYSIA’S aerospace and defence sector is receiving a significant boost through Global Component Asia’s (GCA) initiatives at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2025 (LIMA’25), aimed at advancing local expertise and international collaboration.
The local aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) service provider has signed several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) since the event commenced on Tuesday, partnering with both international and domestic industry players to strengthen national capabilities.
Among the key agreements is a collaboration with CW Aero Services (CWAS), a move that GCA Chairman Datuk Nonee Ashirin Mohd Radzi described as pivotal to Malaysia’s strategic ambitions in the global aerospace arena.
“Collaboration with CWAS is a significant step in our commitment to enhancing Malaysia’s capabilities in the aerospace sector,” she said in a statement issued today.
“By combining our local expertise with CWAS’s world-class technologies and solutions, we are not only strengthening our strategic vision but also aligning with the national objective of boosting industrial development and global competitiveness in aviation.”
GCA, which also specialises in electrical and lighting components across various aircraft platforms, has furthered its commitment to national defence by signing additional MoUs with local players.
Notably, the company has entered into a partnership with Pen Aviation to develop unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) for Malaysian defence and enforcement agencies.
“GCA’s investment in Pen Aviation is expected to accelerate innovation and strengthen our national defence technological capabilities,” said Nonee.
In addition, LIMA’25 has facilitated cooperation with Kemalak Aerospace in the field of avionics MRO and components for the FA-50M light combat aircraft.
These efforts, she added, aim to support the Royal Malaysian Air Force through dependable maintenance services while nurturing domestic expertise in the defence sector. – May 23, 2025
